The Forgotten highlights Serbian women who left a lasting impact on history but never saw their achievements recognized. These women, including Mileva Marić (the first female theoretical physicist), Milunka Savić (one of the most decorated women in war history), Nadežda Petrović (a pioneering painter and feminist), Jelena Frothingham Lozanić (a renowned philanthropist), and Ruth Farnam (the first female soldier to fight with the Serbian Royal Army), achieved greatness with dignity and pure hearts despite facing societal injustice.
The play reflects on the societal tendency to forget and overlook these figures and questions the mentality that sustains this forgetfulness. It also explores the themes of Serbian-American friendship and the ongoing struggle for women's emancipation, hindered by traditional conservatism.
With dynamic, fragmented dramaturgy, beautiful actresses, and musical sequences of Serbian Epic Folk songs and Brechtian tunes, The Forgotten blends nostalgic atmosphere with a call for social change.
